Kumail a Pakistani Comedian trying to make the big time meets the Grad student Emily who they become fond of each other. Kumail knows his family want him to settle down and have a traditional arranged marriage to a fellow Pakistani. He's not one for tradition and finds himself lying about his family values to Emily as well to his family. He's forced to break up with Emily but things take a turn for the worst as Emily is rushed to hospital for life threatening op, during which Kumail gets acquainted with Emily's family and realises he has a more than a soft sport for their daughter.
