Based on a book in 2004 also called "The Last Duel" this is somewhat a true story set in a time of medieval combat in France.

Matt Damon plays "Jean de Carrouges" who is former friend "Jacques Le Gris" played by Adam Driver is accused of raping Jacques wife "Marguerite" played by Jodie Comer.

A trial by duel is settled, leaving the life of Marguerite in the balance. The real question was was Marguerite ever raped and was there more to this than meets the eye, as this question will probably never be answered fully.
